Can you find a phone's exact location just by typing in its phone number? Usually, no. A phone number lookup can sometimes show caller identity, carrier, line type, or the region where a number was issued, but it does not by itself expose a phone's live GPS location. This guide explains what phone-number trackers can and cannot do, reviews several tools already covered on this page, and shows the consent-based options that can provide real location sharing.

Phone Number Location Tracker Guide: What Actually Works
Can a Phone Number Reveal an Exact Live Location?
Direct answer: A phone number alone generally cannot reveal a person's exact, real-time GPS location. Services that perform reverse phone lookup can sometimes identify the caller, carrier, line type, or the region where the number was issued. Live device location normally comes from GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular positioning, or account-based location services on the device itself, with the relevant permissions or sharing relationship.
Last checked: September 2, 2026. We reviewed the public pages of Truecaller, FreePhoneTracer / NumberGuru, YoTracker, Apple, Google, and FamiSafe. Where a provider's live-location claim could not be independently verified, this guide labels it as unverified instead of presenting it as fact.
Part 1: Can You Find a Phone Location by Number for Free?
People search for a phone number location tracker for different reasons: identifying an unknown caller, checking where a number was issued, finding a lost device, or locating a family member. These are different tasks. A reverse phone lookup may help with caller or number information, while live device location normally requires the device owner's participation, an account-based device finder, or a location-sharing app.
The tools below are not equivalent. Some are reverse phone lookup services, while others advertise phone-location features. We checked their public pages on September 2, 2026 and separate verified capabilities from marketing claims. Do not treat a map or 'locating' animation as proof that a service has obtained a phone's GPS coordinates.
1. Truecaller
Truecaller is useful for caller identification and reverse phone lookup, but it is not a live GPS phone tracker. Truecaller's own support documentation says that the location shown is the region where the SIM card is registered; it does not provide a person's current GPS location. Use it when your goal is to identify or screen an unfamiliar number rather than locate a device in real time.
Features:
- Caller ID query
- Auto-block spam calls and SMS
- Community-based spam reporting
Hands-on Experience:
In our current check, Truecaller still offers web and mobile caller-identification tools. Availability and the amount of information returned can vary by number and region. Most importantly, any region shown should not be interpreted as the phone's current location.

- Web Filter & SafeSearch
- Screen Time Limit & Schedule
- Location Tracking & Driving Report
- App Blocker & App Activity Tracker
- YouTube & TikTok History Monitor & App Blocker
- Social Media Texts & Porn Images Alerts
- Works on Mac, Windows, Android, iOS, Kindle Fire
2. NumberGuru- Free Phone Number Tracker
FreePhoneTracer / NumberGuru is better described as a reverse phone lookup service than a live phone tracker. Its public site says the free result may include carrier, line type, and the location where the phone number was issued. It explicitly says it does not provide GPS location or a mobile device's current whereabouts.
Features:
- Provides reverse phone lookup information
- Supports searches for landline and mobile numbers
- The working of the web is easy to understand
- Results can include public or database-sourced number information
- Some owner or report information may require payment
Hands-on Experience:
The free lookup can return basic number information, but not live GPS coordinates. FreePhoneTracer states that any location it provides refers to the issuing location of the line, not the current location of the phone. This makes it more useful for identifying a caller than for finding a person or device.

3. Yotracker
YoTracker currently advertises phone-number-based location tracking on its public website. However, we could not independently verify that entering an arbitrary number returns that device's live GPS coordinates. Treat its location claims as the provider's own claims, not as a verified capability.
Features:
- The website is user-friendly
- You do not need to download any third-party apps to avail of this service. Just use the website to track a cell phone for free online.
- The site advertises support across multiple phone platforms
- The site currently presents an online phone-tracking interface
Hands-on Experience:
The site asks for a country and phone number and presents a tracking workflow. Because the underlying location method and accuracy are not independently verifiable from the public page, do not rely on it for emergencies or assume that a displayed result is a live GPS fix. Avoid entering sensitive information or completing unrelated offers if you are redirected away from the service.

4. Online GPS Phone Tracker
This article previously listed an 'Online GPS Phone Tracker' as a free number-based locator. We could not verify a current official service page or its ability to return live GPS coordinates from a phone number alone, so this entry should be treated as a legacy reference rather than a recommended location method.
Features:
- The older listing claimed support for mobile and landline numbers.
- The older listing claimed global coverage; this is not currently verified.
Hands-on Experience:
If a tracker requires surveys, downloads, payment details, or unrelated offers before showing a result, leave the page unless you can verify the provider and what data it actually returns. A phone number alone is not proof that the service has access to the device's GPS location.

Free Ways to Find a Real Phone Location (When You Have Permission)
Google Maps Location Sharing
Google Maps can show a person's real-time location when that person chooses to share it with you. Google says the sharer controls who can see the location and for how long; a recipient can also see information such as recent location and battery status. This is a better match for live location tracker free intent than a reverse phone lookup because the location comes from the device and an explicit sharing relationship.
Apple Find My
Apple Find My can locate your own Apple devices and can show another person's location when they share it with you. With Family Sharing, family members can appear in Find My, but location sharing still depends on the relevant sharing settings.
Google Find Hub
Google Find Hub supports finding Android devices and sharing real-time location with friends or family. Google's documentation states that you can see another person's location only when they share it with you.
For emergencies, do not rely on an unverified number-tracking website. Contact local emergency services or the relevant carrier / platform support when appropriate.
Part 2: What Third-Party Phone Tracker Apps Actually Require
The apps below are often discovered through searches such as phone tracker by number. In practice, app-based live location normally depends on installation, account setup, device permissions, invitations, or location sharing. The number may be used to connect family members, but it is not a shortcut to silently retrieve an arbitrary phone's GPS location.
1. Truecaller App
The Truecaller app focuses on caller identification, spam protection, and reverse number lookup. It should not be described as a GPS tracker for locating an unknown number, because Truecaller states that it does not provide live GPS location data.
Features:
- It is available for iPhone and Android users
- Truecaller can identify numbers and show number-related region information; it does not provide live GPS tracking
- You can also view the name and photo of your caller.
- Truecaller also comes with a 'block' feature, through which you can block any particular callers.

2. Mobile Number Tracker Pro
Mobile Number Tracker Pro SIM is still listed in the Apple App Store. Its current listing combines phone-number information with real-time location sharing for friends and family. Real-time tracking requires the app's sharing workflow; entering a number alone should not be treated as enough to reveal a device's location.
Features:
- It is available to iPhone users
- It provides operator / network information for numbers in many countries
- Its App Store listing describes real-time location sharing between users

3. Mobile Number Locator
Mobile Number Locator is presented as a number / caller information app. Exact current GPS location from an arbitrary phone number is not a capability we could verify, so treat map-based number information as lookup data rather than proof of the phone's live position.
Features:
- It is available for Android users
- The app is accompanied by an automatic caller identification feature
- All global codes are in the app's database
- A map view may show number-related geographic information; exact live GPS location is not verified
- The phone number locator also works offline
4. Phone Tracker By Number
Phone Tracker By Number is a family-location app that uses phone numbers to connect users. Current public app information indicates that the tracked person needs to install the app and accept the location-sharing request. It is therefore a consent-based GPS sharing tool, not a way to locate any phone secretly from the number alone.
Features:
- It is available for Android users
- The app is offered as a free download with its own current terms and in-app model
- It can provide GPS-based family location features after users are connected
- Its tracking is app / GPS based rather than dependent on a specific carrier
The practical takeaway is that live location comes from the device or an authorized location-sharing service, not from the phone number itself. Built-in tools such as Apple Find My, Google Maps Location Sharing, and Google Find Hub can show real-time or recent location when the device owner has enabled the relevant account or sharing settings. Family-tracking apps work on the same basic principle: installation, permissions, and an established sharing relationship are required.
For parents who need ongoing family location features rather than a one-off number lookup, use a tool designed for permission-based family safety. The FamiSafe module below explains its location features and setup context.

What We Verified for This 2026 Update
- Truecaller says it does not provide live GPS location; its location is the SIM registration region.
- FreePhoneTracer / NumberGuru says it does not provide GPS or current mobile-device location; its free data can include carrier, line type, and issuing location.
- Google Maps and Google Find Hub support real-time location sharing controlled by the person sharing the location.
- Apple Find My supports device finding and person-to-person location sharing.
- YoTracker currently advertises number-based location tracking, but we could not independently verify that an arbitrary phone number alone reveals the device's live GPS location.
Conclusion
If your goal is to find location by phone number, first separate number lookup from device location. A phone number can help identify a caller or connect people inside a sharing app, but it does not normally reveal an exact live GPS position by itself. For a lost phone, use the device owner's Apple or Google account tools. For family location, use explicit location sharing or a family-safety app with the required permissions. This distinction avoids misleading tracker claims and gives you a method that matches the job you actually need to do.
