Part 1. What Is 9anime?
9anime was an anime streaming website offering links to subtitled and dubbed series, movies, and original video animations (OVAs). It became known for its large catalog and free access. This description refers to the historical service, not a currently verified official site.
In August 2023, 9anime changed its name to AniWave. The renamed site shut down in August 2024. Some websites still use the old branding, but their relationship to the former operators is unverified. For current viewing, consider licensed anime services and check availability in your country. You can also explore free anime apps.
Because the original site has closed, the most useful question today is whether a website claiming to be 9anime can be trusted.
Part 2. Potential Risks Associated With 9anime
Malware Risks from Ads
Lookalike streaming sites may contain misleading ads, fake video players, unwanted notifications, or deceptive download buttons. These are potential risks, not proof that every visit causes an infection.
Legal & Copyright Issues
The original 9anime/AniWave was not a licensed anime streaming service. Copyright and streaming rules differ by country. A site displaying familiar branding is not evidence that its content is authorized.
Part 3. Is 9anime Safe To Use?
No website currently using the 9anime name should be assumed to be the original, safe service. The historical 9anime rebranded as AniWave, which closed in 2024. Copies and lookalikes may expose users to unverified streaming sources, intrusive advertising, and phishing attempts.
For a more dependable option, look for licensed anime distributors such as Crunchyroll or Netflix. Available anime titles and parental settings vary by region and subscription.
If you encounter a website claiming to be 9anime, these precautions can reduce some online risks. They cannot verify that a clone is authentic or make an unlicensed service legal.
Use Ad Blockers
A reputable content blocker may reduce unwanted advertising, but it cannot guarantee protection from harmful links.
Browser Privacy Settings
Use browser security protections, and avoid entering passwords or payment details on unverified lookalike websites.
Avoid Downloads
Avoid downloading unknown files, browser extensions, or video players from unofficial streaming pages.
Use VPNs
A VPN may affect connection privacy, but it cannot verify a website, remove malware, or make unauthorized streams legal.

- Screen Viewer: Screen Viewer offers screenshots on compatible devices after appropriate setup; it is not an unrestricted live view of everything a child does.
Conclusion
The original 9anime changed its name to AniWave in 2023 and shut down in 2024. Therefore, current websites using the 9anime name should not automatically be considered safe or official. For anime streaming, choose licensed services, review age ratings, and avoid suspicious links or downloads.
Parents can combine age-appropriate viewing choices with reasonable screen-time and web-filtering settings. FamiSafe can help manage supported devices, but it cannot guarantee protection from every online risk.
